Babi Kecap (Braised Pork Belly in Sweet Soy Sauce)

This is one of ultimate dishes in Chinese-Indonesian culinary world! "Babi" means pork or pig, "kecap" refers to Indonesian (sweet) soy sauce. It is sweet and flavorful from the five-spice powder and star anise. Perfect to be enjoyed with a bowl of warm white rice and some vegetables.

Babi Kecap (Braised Pork Belly in Sweet Soy Sauce)

Serve : 4

Ingredients :
500 gr pork belly, slice
10 dried shiitake mushrooms, soak in water until soften, cut roughly
1 clove garlic, peel and smash
3 tbsp Kikkoman all purpose soy sauce
6 tbsp sweet soy sauce
1 tbsp five-spice powder
2 star anise
½ tsp ground white pepper
½ tsp salt
100 ml water

Steps :
Put all ingredients into a pot, give them a stir. Close the lid, then cook them on medium heat until the pork softens.

Turn off the heat, serve immediately with steamed white rice and another vegetable dishes like Sauteed Broccoli and Mushrooms, Sauteed Choysum and Tofu, Sauteed Snap Peas, Carrot and Mushroom, Stir-Fried Tofu and Vegetables, etc.
