Chili con Carne

First time I knew this dish was from my husband. He bought canned chili con carne from supermarket. The tasted was good and since then I wanted to try make it myself.

Chili con carne means "chili with meat" in spanish, it come originally from mexico and south america. It is basically ground beef and red beans stew in tomato sauce.

I never try the original version, so I don't really know if it is really spicy. I just put a little bit of chili powder. You can put more chilies if you like. I found that some people put this secret ingredients by making chili con carne : dark chocolate. Surprise? I was so surprise but I tried it, it makes my chili con carne taste amazing. Of course you can skip it if you feel strange to put dark chocolate into a meat stew.

Chili con Carne

Serve : 4

Ingredients :
750 gr minced beef
3 tbsp olive oil
½ onion, peel and chop
2 cloves garlic, peel and mince
400 gr canned chopped tomatoes
1 x 400 gr canned red beans
1 x 300 gr canned corn
4 tbsp tomato paste
100 gr dark chocolate (optional)
150 ml water
1 ½ tsp sweet paprika powder
1 tsp chilli powder
2 tsp ground cumin
½ tsp ground cinnamon
salt
ground black pepper

Extra :
sour cream
coriander leaves

Steps :
Prepare a pot over medium-high heat. Add in olive oil, onion and garlic. Saute them until fragrance.

Add in ground beef, sweet paprika powder, cumin, cinnamon and chili powder. Stir them until combined. Then add in red beans, corn, water, tomato paste, thinned chopped tomatoes, dark chocolate, salt and pepper. Stir them again and continue cooking in medium heat for about 30 minutes.

Stir them frequently to prevent burning. Then turn off the heat. Enjoy with white rice and sour cream on top. Sprinkle with coriander leaves.
