Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

My family really loves donuts! It's soft and sweet. My daughter always join me in the kitchen when I make them. Sometimes I make them when my daughter's friends come to play and they are always excited to help me by shaping. Sometimes we just shape it into small balls to make it quicker. And I know that my donuts would be quickly disappear from the plate soon after served on the table 😉

I have posted another donut recipes with different toppings few times ago which are Cheese Donuts and Pinky Donuts. They have actually the same basic recipe for the dough. This time I would share another simple topping, cinnamon sugar. It is suitable during Christmas time. I made this for my daughter's breakfast in her kindergarten last year and she was very proud to tell her teachers that she helped me in the kitchen by making them. FYI : Due to healthy reasons, the kids in most of kindergartens in Germany are not allowed to bring "sweet foods" like cake, toast bread with jam, cookies, choco cereals or waffels for breakfast. But once a year there is one day called  "Adventsfrßhstßck" (means advent-breakfast) which is in December. In this day, the kids are allowed to bring something sweet for their breakfast.

Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

Makes about 22 donuts

You need :
a ring or a cup with about 5 cm diameter
a ring or a bottle lid with about 2 cm diameter

Ingredients :
125 ml milk (38 degree Celsius)
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp butter
1 egg
½ pack dry yeast
220 gr all purpose flour
pinch of salt
frying oil
extra flour for dusting

Sugar mixture :
confectioners/powdered sugar (caster sugar will also work)
cinnamon powder

Steps :
Add in dry yeast into the milk, wait for few minutes to activate the yeast. Set aside.

Into a mixing bowl, Add in flour, sugar, egg, butter and salt. Then pour in the yeast and milk mixture. Mix them carefully until become a soft dough. Cover the bowl with a wet cloth. Let it rise about 1-1.5 hours.

Mix together sugar and cinnamon powder. Set aside.

After 1-1.5 hour, dust your working surface with some flour, scrape the dough onto floured surface. Then dust the dough with flour. Roll the dough with a rolling pin into 1 cm thick.

Shape the donuts with the rings (larger ring first then small ring in its middle) until finish. Roll again the dough-rest then shape it again. Repeat until finish.

Prepare a frying pan over medium high heat, pour in frying oil. Wait until the oil is hot enough. Fry the donuts until golden brown then flip them. Take them out from the oil then drain onto paper towel. Coat them with sugar cinnamon mixture when they're still hot. Repeat these process until all donuts are finished.

Enjoy them with a cup of tea or coffee!
