Korean Stir-Fried Spicy Tofu

My husband basically doesn't like spicy food but he loves this. This is inspired from a Chinese hotpot restaurant in Stuttgart which also serve this dish. I've tried to make it similar using a mixture of Korean hot pepper paste  (gochujang) and tomato ketchup to make it sweeter. Put more gochujang and less tomato ketchup to get more spicy taste. Let's try!

Korean Stir-Fried Spicy Tofu

Serve : 2

Ingredients :
400 gr silk tofu, soak the excess water with paper towel then cut into bite size pieces
some corn flour  (all purpose flour is ok)
oil for frying
2 tbsp cooking oil
½ small onion, peel and slice thinly
½ red bell pepper, core and slice thinly

Sauce :
1½ tbsp Gochujang (Korean hot pepper paste)
3 tbsp tomato ketchup
100 ml water
½ tbsp sugar
pinch of salt
pinch of ground black pepper

Steps :
Cover tofu pieces with flour, then deep fry them in a frying pan over high heat into slightly golden brown. Drain them onto paper towel to remove excess oil.

Mix all sauce ingredients in a bowl until well combined. Set aside.

In a pan over medium high heat, add in cooking oil, onion and bell pepper. Fry them until fragrance. Pour in the sauce, cook until it boils. Add in fried tofu then mix until covered with the sauce. Turn off the heat and serve with cooked white rice and another dishes such as Japchae (Stir-Fried Glass Noodles).
