Salt and Pepper Tofu

We love tofu very much, it's easy to cook, very healthy (contains much protein almost like meats), delicious and it is OK for my family to eat cooked rice only with fried tofus and kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) dip.

This looks so simple, but very yummy! My husband said that it was tasty just because salt and pepper have seeped into the tofus 🙂 This could be a good companion for another Asian dishes such as Sauteed Green Beans and Chinese Sausage, Sweet and Sour Pork, Sweet Braised Pork Ribs, Sauteed Choysum and Bean Sprouts, etc.

Salt and Pepper Tofu

Serve : 4

Ingredients :
400 gr tofu, cut into pieces
6 tbsp all purpose flour (add a big pinch of salt and pepper)
frying oil
1 red chili, remove the stem and seeds, mince
½ green bell pepper, remove the seed and mince
1 garlic, peel and mince
2 tbsp cooking oil
salt and pepper

Steps :
Wipe the tofu pieces with paper towel to remove excess water, then coat them in flour.

Into a frying pan, add in frying oil, preheat over high heat. Check the oil temperature by throwing in a tofu piece, it will bubble if it's ready. Fry tofu pieces until slightly golden brown in both sides. Do it in batches. Drain on paper towel to remove excess oil.

Into another pan over medium high heat, add in cooking oil, minced garlic, chili and bell pepper. Fry until the garlic starts to brown. Add in fried tofu. Stir them together, season with salt and pepper. Turn off the heat and transfer into a serving plate.

Serve with cooked rice and another dishes. Sauteed Green Beans and Chinese Sausage, Sweet and Sour Pork, Sweet Braised Pork Ribs, Sauteed Choysum and Bean Sprouts, etc.
