Inarizushi (Tofu-Bag Sushi)

I know that most of you love sushi, am I right? 😉 Sushi is the most popular Japanese food in the world, vinegared-cooked rice, combined or mixed with another ingredients such as vegetables, fish or meat. In Japan, people use special rice, which is "sushi rice" (short grain rice) to prepare sushi. But it's too expensive for me to buy sushi rice, so I just use Jasmine rice and it works well, so don't worry if you don't have sushi rice at home.

Inarizushi is one of many types of sushi. The vinegared-cooked rice is inserted into the tofu bags called Aburaage (deep fried tofu pouch). In most of Japanese restaurants, inarizushi contain only the rice, but I like to mix the rice with some vegetables or thinned tuna fillet.

Inarizushi (Tofu-Bag Sushi)

Makes 12 Sushi

Ingredients :
12 aburaage (deep fried tofu bag)
400 gr fresh hot cooked rice
6 tbsp sushi vinegar
pinch of salt

Filling 1 :
80 gr peas, boil for a while until soften
2 tbsp caviar (salted fish eggs)
nori slices to garnish

Filling 2 :
100 gr thinned tuna in oil, drain

Steps :

Add cooked rice into a mixing bowl, pour in the vinegar and season with salt. Mix quickly with a spoon by flipping it.

Add in one of the fillings. (If you want to make 12 sushi with 2 different fillings, just divide the fillings amount with 2. It would be 40 gr peas + 1 tbsp caviar and 50 gr tuna for 12 sushi). Mix evenly.

Fill the aburaage (tofu bags) with the fillings until finished. Garnish with nori slices.
